Vilanovascape
Overview
The upcoming qualifications for the 37th America's Cup, a prestigious international sailing boat competition, are set to take place in Vilanova i la Geltrù, a charming coastal town situated near Barcelona. This event holds significant potential to boost the town's tourism sector, prompting the Ajuntament of Vilanova i la Geltrù to leverage it as an opportunity for both modernization and internationalization efforts.
Our task was to create an engaging and immersive augmented reality (AR) experience that not only promotes Vilanova and its attractions but also fosters a stronger connection with the competition.
My team crafted "Vilanovascape," an interactive AR map game designed to captivate children and families, inviting them to explore the town in an innovative and exciting way.

Process
Methodology
The team following an Agile mindset crafted the experience through three sprint weeks.
The first week was devoted to in-depth analysis of the brief's objectives, stakeholder engagement, desk research, daily scrums, and an on-site survey in Vilanova i la Geltrù, laying the foundation for opportunity mapping and a thorough SWOT analysis
In the following week, we created an opportunity map to focus on our target users. The evolving concept underwent iterative improvements due to time, resources, and tech considerations. Regular stand-ups gathered crucial insights. With a defined concept, we utilized an Onirix AR model, efficiently splitting tasks for prototype building
In the third week, we crafted the prototype, refined UI and branding, and presented our proposal to the Ajuntament of Vilanova i la Geltrù.
Strategic objectives
Our goals encompass guiding citizens to key points, consolidating information on a single website, promoting activities for youth, and establishing a social media plan connecting relevant audiences.
Concept
A web-app with an interactive map that encourages exploration of Vilanova i La Geltru through highlighted destinations and America’s Cup-themed riddles in Augmented Reality. The target is families traveling for the America's Cup or passing through Spain, who are attracted to visit the town. The web-app should serve as a useful tool and a fun experience for children, stimulating them to explore, solve riddles, learn about the competing teams, and collect digital souvenirs in the form of racing sailing boat cards










Outcome
This project was a dynamic journey that proved our adaptability and collaboration prowess. We embraced a new technology, balancing diverse stakeholder interests and expectations, crafting an engaging experience within a condensed timeline harnessing the Agile methodology and mindset.
